School Council

School Council

The Nicol Mere School Council is a group of children who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve our school.

Our school council is made up of 2 children from each year group who are elected by their classmates.

The jobs of the School Council are to help make decisions in school and to be voice of the children by representing the views of all pupils. They are responsible for carrying out the ideas and actions that they have agreed upon.

The School Council meets with Mrs Sedman every week to discuss issues and make decisions. These may include such things as: improvements to school & play times, ideas for charity fundraising days & hosting competitions.

The School Council is an exciting and meaningful part of school, and the children who are elected are very proud of their responsibilities. Our School Council does a fantastic job, and we are very proud of our children that take part!

Democracy week

The children at Nicol Mere took part in our democracy week where they learned about what democracy was, where it all started and how other countries ruled.

Children who wanted to be elected for the school council had to write their own speech and present it to the class.

In school, we had a voting day. Each class had to vote for the candidate who they thought had the qualities to become a school council member. Successful candidates were announced; the children were so proud that they had been selected to represent the voice of the children at Nicol Mere.
