Residentials
Residential Visits at Nicol Mere
At Nicol Mere, we believe residentials are more than just a school trip – they’re life experiences that help our children grow. From Year 4 to Year 6, pupils are given the chance to venture beyond the classroom, try new activities, and discover a sense of independence in a safe and supportive environment.
Over the years, our residential programme has included visits to Hinning House, The Anderton Centre, Brathay Hall, and PGL. These trips are often mentioned by our pupils as one of their favourite memories from their time at Nicol Mere.
Why Residentials Matter
Residential visits help children to:
Gain independence and resilience away from home
Build friendships and teamwork through shared experiences
Develop confidence, cooperation, and problem-solving skills
Engage in adventurous activities in the great outdoors
Learn about personal safety and assessing risks in unfamiliar settings
Year 4 Residential: Hinning House / Brathay Hall / Anderton Centre
Each year, our Year 4 children take part in a short residential trip, usually in the Spring term. They enjoy:
Two or three days of exciting outdoor activities
Overnight stays with their classmates
Adventures like orienteering, forest games, waterfall scrambling and map reading
These visits are often a child’s first overnight trip away from home, and they’re carefully designed to be fun, safe, and confidence-boosting.
Year 6 Residential: PGL Shropshire
Open to Year 6 (and occasionally Year 5 pupils), our longer residential at PGL in Shropshire offers four action-packed days and nights filled with:
High-energy activities such as abseiling, zip wiring, quad biking and raft building
Team challenges like fencing, archery and problem-solving courses
Confidence-building experiences in a supportive setting
PGL is a fantastic way for our older pupils to celebrate their final year at Nicol Mere and build lifelong memories.
