School Council

At Nicol Mere, we believe it’s important that our children feel heard, involved, and empowered. Our School Council plays a vital role in representing pupil voice and working together to make our school the very best it can be.

The Nicol Mere School Council is a team of elected pupils who represent their classmates, share ideas, and help make key decisions around school life. Two children from each year group are chosen by their peers in a democratic vote to join the council. These proud representatives take their role seriously, acting as the voice of the children across a range of topics and initiatives.

The council meets regularly with Miss Clayton to discuss ideas, raise issues, and plan activities. These discussions cover everything from improvements to school and playtimes to charity events, competitions and ways we can make school life even more enjoyable. It’s a great way for children to practise leadership, communication and decision-making – all while making a real difference to their school.

The School Council is a valued and exciting part of life at Nicol Mere. We are incredibly proud of all our councillors and the brilliant job they do representing the views of others.

Democracy Week

Each year, our pupils take part in Democracy Week – a celebration of pupil voice and the democratic process. Children explore what democracy means, where it comes from, and how decisions are made in different countries around the world.

Those wishing to stand for School Council prepare and deliver speeches to their classmates, outlining why they would make a great representative. On voting day, every child casts their vote – just like in a real election! Successful candidates are announced and take on their new role with pride, ready to be a voice for positive change at Nicol Mere.
