Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) Curriculum Statement
At Nicol Mere, we are committed to delivering a high-quality PE curriculum that supports children’s physical development, mental wellbeing, and love for being active. From Reception through to Year 6, pupils experience a wide variety of sports and physical activities that promote fitness, resilience, teamwork, and fair play.
We strive to ensure that every child enjoys PE, develops a lifelong appreciation for sport and health, and feels confident to take part in both individual and team-based physical challenges. Through competition and collaboration, we help children understand the values of respect, determination, and sportsmanship—learning how to celebrate success and cope with setbacks with maturity.

Impact
Children at Nicol Mere approach Physical Education with enthusiasm, confidence, and pride. Our PE curriculum equips them with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to live healthy and active lives. Pupils develop the ability to take on age-appropriate challenges, work collaboratively, and reflect positively on their progress.
By the end of each key stage, pupils are expected to know, apply, and understand the key skills and knowledge set out in the National Curriculum. Progress is tracked through summative assessments, pupil voice, and ongoing teacher observations, with regular review by the subject leader to ensure continued improvement.
Our inclusive and well-rounded PE provision means children of all backgrounds and abilities make outstanding progress. Through curriculum lessons and extracurricular opportunities, we empower pupils to enjoy sport, embrace competition, and make active, healthy lifestyle choices that extend far beyond the school gates.
